When it comes to improving the shape, color, or alignment of your teeth without more extensive treatment, dental veneers are one of the most widely used solutions in cosmetic dentistry.
What are dental veneers?
They are very thin shells, usually made of porcelain or composite resin, bonded to the visible surface of the tooth to correct stains, chips, minor misalignments, or worn teeth, achieving a natural, even look.
What issues can they fix?
- Stains or discoloration that don’t respond to whitening.
- Chipped, worn, or irregularly shaped teeth.
- Small gaps between teeth (diastemas).
- Minor cosmetic misalignments.
What does the procedure involve?
It’s usually done in two visits: the first prepares the tooth (with minimal enamel removal for porcelain veneers) and takes measurements to custom-design the veneer; the second permanently bonds it and adjusts the bite and finish.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years with proper care; composite veneers typically last 5 to 7 years. In both cases, avoiding biting hard objects and keeping up regular checkups extends their lifespan.
